CAPE COBRA LEAGUE

Good day to all Dojo Owners,

Brackenfell Shotokan Karate Academy (BSKA) would like to invite your dojo to participate in this year’s CAPE COBRA LEAGUE Invitational.

This is a new initiative among four dojos in the Western Cape: namely, Brackenfell Shotokan Karate Academy, Boland Dragons Karate, Helderberg Shotokan Karate Academy, and Neko Belville-South. This initiative aims to create a ranking system for competitors as they compete in the upcoming 4 karate league tournaments. Competitors will collect points based on their results and become the Western Province League Champions.

These leagues are friendly yet highly competitive competitions for all dojos. Through these leagues, we aim to encourage friendship, participation, and interaction, regardless of style and organization. We would love to see you there.

Furthermore, these leagues offer an opportunity for dojos to introduce their novice students to a competitive environment, as well as to prepare their more experienced athletes for upcoming provincial and national tournaments.

Please note the following:
NO regional or provincial colours will be awarded during these leagues.
This initiative is solely a friendly league concept and does not impact any organization, team selection, or merit aside from the Western Province League Championship.

Unfortunately, NO refunds will be provided for no-shows or competitors who are unable to participate due to illness on the day of these leagues.

We encourage all dojos to send referees, judges, and table officials to develop officials for future tournaments in the Western Cape. Please provide the names of your referees, judges, and table officials as per the attached registration form. Encourage your officials to volunteer their assistance, which will lead to a more efficient league and reduce the workload for each official. A regional Judge & Referee course is scheduled for Saturday, 2nd September 2023, for interested participants.

There will be a snack shop and food stand available to cater to our hungry competitors and spectators. Card payment facilities will be accessible. Our officials will be catered to throughout the championship. The following stands will be available at the championship:

• BSKA Tuck Shop
• Spur Mobile Food Unit
• Jaffle Hoekie
• Boston Coffee

A live feed (dependent on Wi-Fi availability) for the league will also be accessible for online viewing. We will share the streaming address with all instructors closer to the event.

Our goal is to develop athletes and officials, and we hope for a day of friendly competition and learning.

All payments and entries must be submitted to the Dojo Head of each Dojo. The Dojo Head should transfer their dojo’s entries as a bulk payment. Individual entries from students of any Dojo will not be accepted.

Please note that entries will close on Friday, 6th October 2023. We need to finalize the following in advance:
• Compile and finalize the Male & Female Divisions and identify any mistakes or incorrect entries.
• Compile and finalize the drawsheets for each division; if needed, some categories will be merged.
• Calculate the correct total entries to plan the necessary tatami for the tournament day to ensure professional
and smooth operation.
• Determine the total number of referees, judges, and table officials required for the competition.
• Finalize the Order of Events for the tournament.

Attached are the following documents:
1) Tournament Invitation Letter with all necessary information.
2) Competitor Entry & Indemnity Form that MUST be completed and signed by the competitor.
